Using the Quiz tool to help facilitate learning
A quiz is often used as a form of assessment however Coralie Daniels decided a quiz would be the best way to help facilitate learning for staff. For the Bullying Awareness and Prevention Training Program the aim was not to test people’s knowledge but to help them to learn about Bullying Awareness and Prevention and CIT’s processes. By setting the right parameters on the Quiz tool it became possible to provide people with extra information and expand on current knowledge, going further and referencing original source documents. Various tactics were used to entice completion including incentives, ease of access and ease of completion as well as continuous feedback.

'Developing Sustainable E-learning Courses - 10 Practical Tips'
This presentation looked into the three different aspects of sustainability:

  • Teacher sustainability – learning how to design and develop courses that don’t take excessive time to facilitate and to build
  • Student sustainability – learning how to design and develop courses that don’t take excessive time for the student to do but keeping them active and engaged
  • Institute sustainability – building courses that don’t take up excessive human resources and large amounts of digital storage.

And gave practical tips on how to avoid or combat them.

This material brings together all of the learning objects from the following national collections: Flexible Learning Toolboxes, Generic Skills, E-learning Innovations, Industry Integration of E-learning, and National Digital Learning Resources Network. You will now find all of this ready-made VET e-learning content at this ‘one-stop’ site which will also provide you with a better experience through:


  • An easy to use interface
  • Straightforward search options
  • More meaningful search outcomes
  • Social software to like, favourite, comment.

“There are literally thousands of pieces of content, covering hundreds of topics from building to training and assessment itself, and focused on VET competencies and qualifications”, says Joanne Norbury, who manages the new site.


“Whether you are a new or very experienced VET teacher or trainer, you will keep returning to this site to enhance your e-learning delivery”, says Joanne.


In addition to direct access to the downloading of the learning objects, you can order Australian Flexible Learning Toolboxes via the site. These CD-ROMs contain all of the learning objects associated with a particular Industry Training Package qualification. There are more than 120 complete Toolboxes covering over 190 qualifications.

New content supporting equity in VET

New digital content is now available to support the delivery of vocational education and training to disadvantaged learners. The content is focused on the needs of groups who have experienced disadvantage in learning and employment and supports their participation in a second chance at vocational qualifications.

The content projects were funded by the National VET E-learning Strategy in 2012-13, and managed by the Broadband Content Services business activity:

**//Real world technology//**
This resource focuses on three units from the Certificate II in Information Technology and Digital Media training package and is aimed at young Indigenous learners who are either disengaged or experiencing access issues related to learning, training and ultimately employment. Gamification techniques have been used to provide clear goals, frequent positive feedback, and narrative.
**//Getting out there//**
This resource provides a technology bridge for people transitioning from corrective centres to life outside prison. It is designed to give users, including those with low literacy and/or digital literacy, the skills to confidently access commonly used websites and tools such as Centrelink, Medicare, web-based email, bus and train timetables, and job seeking sites.

**//Apparel merchandising//**

This ‘computer game-style’ resource enables students to practice important skills prior to work placement such as identifying dates for stock rotation, sizing progressions, colour coding, planograms, terms of stock and merchandising and department layout. The target learners are students with intellectual disabilities who are undertaking a transition to work program.

**//Removing barriers to sustainable work practice//**

Aimed at students of agriculture and horticulture and those seeking employment in this field, the product will be used by remote learners, learners with additional learning needs, and entry level workers in need of pre-vocational up skilling. Designed to support the delivery of AHCWRK209A Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices this resource is highly engaging and widely transferrable.
**//Plan for success//**

Aimed at learners who are new to post school study (youth) and those coming back to study after a long break, this resource helps students identify personal training and employment goals and collect information about their education and training needs. Students are guided to use the web, YouTube, social media, and career professionals to get information about careers, job skills and training options.

**//Coordinate traffic with stop-slow bat//**

This project has developed an online resource that simulates the workplace and engages ‘second chance’ learners through active participation in learning. The resource aims to benefit a diverse group of learners including people returning to work, long-term unemployed, people in the criminal justice system, retrenched employees, people with physical disabilities and students with literacy and numeracy challenges.

**Getting to** **know me**

This resource supports two units from the highly anticipated Foundation Skills training package and is based upon the principles and theories related to wellbeing, emotional intelligence, multiple intelligence and resilience. This resource assists learners to identify their personal barriers to work, providing them with knowledge and tools to remove such barriers, build confidence by highlighting their strengths, and offer learning and employment suggestions that are matched to their personality type and learning style(s).
